Dan 16th September 2020

I first met Bob in 2008 when I moved back to the North West to practice at the criminal Bar. Bob prosecuted me in some fairly long and complex cases so I was fortunate to spend quite some time with him. He always prosecuted with great skill, but always totally fairly and with a light touch that was devastatingly effective. I recall a client’s partner observing, while we were waiting for the jury to return a verdict in a case Bob had prosecuted, in which he’d cross examined the defendant for some hours and in which, if convicted, the defendant faced many years in prison “He’s had a fair trial and that’s all you can ask for. That prosecutor seems like a nice bloke.” He was a real gentleman, witty, funny and a pleasure to spend time with. He was one of the main reasons I joined Exchange Chambers, where he practised. Whenever I turned up to court, I was always so pleased to see Bob, even more so if I discovered he was against me, despite knowing I’d be in for a proper fight. I’ll really miss you Bob. Sleep well mate.
