I knew Bob through Jane but our lives would interweave over the next 30 years, mostly chatting while walking Connie, but also being invited into the family home and to family occasions. Bob was always welcoming and great company - that lawyer's mind could crack dilemmas with ease and our shared background in music meant there was always a new topic of conversation. He loved his family, he was a great guitarist (with a lovely economical style, speaking as a bass player) and he had a fabulous sense of humour, able to laugh at himself and his line of business with gusto. I have very happy memories of laughing and laughing in his company - in the park, on the bus, meeting around Didsbury - and find myself struggling to process the fact that he's gone.
