I was not a close friend but worked with Bob on many occasions, prosecuting when he defended and defending when he prosecuting. I always enjoyed being in a case with him. He was a superb advocate, always fair, good-humoured and good company. He had that most important characteristic - he always regarded life away from the Bar as much more important than life at the Bar. Not all of us retain that essential perspective.
